My hair has always been stick straight, except for the perm I got in eight grade that made it look like I had a giant red cotton ball sitting on my head. After I got over that trauma, I tried over and over again to get my hair wavy (in a more attractive way!) with no luck. Then I found Bumble and bumble Surf Spray. I’ve always felt a bond to Bumble and bumble because my mom got her hair cut by the owner, Michael Gordon, in the early eighties when it was a small salon on the second floor of a not-so-great building a few blocks from our apartment (it became a multi-million dollar company and was sold to Estee Lauder in 2006).

Anyway, I digress!  Surf Spray is a saltwater-infused texturizer that I use to get beachy hair in the middle of winter. It’s great when I don’t want my hair to look flat. Surf Spray creates volume and waves and makes my hair look bouncy under a hat. I can even get rid of hat hair by wetting my hair slightly after taking off my hat and scrunching my hair to refresh the formula.

Bumble and bumble Surf Spray. Blowdry hair until damp, spray on and then scrunch or twirl hair until dry. $27
