Two Mom Makeovers

Fox News asked me to do a mom makeover for a segment on TV today. Amanda and Melanie are both very attractive, but they’re not living up to their fabulous potential. My task was to find them clothes that suit their lifestyle but are more chic than the mom jeans, sweatshirts and sneakers that they normally wear. They also got their hair cut and styled and their makeup done.

Here are the before and after photos for Amanda.

I found a great pair of jeans for Amanda and paired it with a chic but comfy cardigan, all from Macy’s. The scarf from Brightly Twisted pulls it all together (their online store is under construction, but you can find them at Nordstrom here). The ballet flats are so cute and the pewter color makes them versatile enough to wear with everything. You can find them at Zappo’s here: Ballet flats

Here are the before and after photos for Melanie.

Melanie is a bit sportier so I found her a light turtleneck with a great sleeveless vest to go over it. The black skinny jeans look so sophisticated with the riding boots. Melanie can pair the jeans and boots with almost any top and she will look pulled together. The clothes are from Macy’s. The riding boots are from Zappos here: Riding boots

With the constant demands of kids and all the running around involved, it can be difficult be a chic SAHM (stay-at-home mom), but there are three must-haves:

1. Scarf. Throw one on, and it’s a quick way to dress up any outfit. Scarves are everywhere these days, so it’s easy to find one to fit any budget. If you live in a place that has four seasons, it’s a great layering piece. I wear heavy ones in the winter and light ones the rest of the year. I’ll even wear a scarf in the summer over a tank top. I turn it into a wrap if I’m inside somewhere and the A/C is turned up too high.

2. Dark wash, bootleg jeans. Bootleg jeans are flattering for EVERY body type. They balance out wide hips for feminine figures and create curves for boyish figures. The dark wash immediately makes an outfit look more sophisticated, and if you can squeeze a date night in somewhere, they make a great day-to-night transition.

3.  Ballet flats are as comfortable as slippers, so they’re perfect for all the errands a mom needs to run. It is also easy to find a pair that fits any budget. Because I love them so much, I devoted an entire post to them. Check it out for more about why ballet flats are a must-have: ballet flat post
